Where Do They Find These People?

The first thing that raised my ire this morning was a headline from the on-line version of The Washington Post stating "McCain Strategist: 'It's Not About The Issues'." Then I saw this faux bumper sticker, but it seems to be missing Wife #1.

I feel like I'm watching a train wreck as the Republicans fall in line to get two more unqualified people into the White House.

I'm watching the convention right now and can't believe what I'm seeing and hearing.

Personally, I don't want a "just a hockey mom," I want someone extraordinary running the country. It looks like John McCain just wants another wife. Maybe he can cut the White House budget by putting her in the kitchen since she fired her exec chef in Alaska to do her own cooking.

The number of outright lies--things which can be fact-checked--in the speeches last night were astonishing. "She cut taxes." What taxes? Alaska doesn't have personal income taxes or sales taxes.

It seems to me that the best thing she can say is she RAISED taxes on oil companies, which is a good thing. Won't fly in a Republican Washington, though, or with Chaney anywhere in sight.

If you didn't see last night's Daily Show or Colbert Report, they are both must-sees. I'm sure tonight and tomorrow night will be as well.

What these candidates don't get is that every single one of their "flip-flops" is available to the public, and now it isn't just the comedy shows who are using researchers to dig up stuff.

No wonder the cops are arresting members of the press in Minneapolis/St. Paul, a truly frightening development. Talk about chilling speech.

Best retort I've heard so far comes politico.com:

"Someone should point out to John McCain that Jesus Christ was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a governor."

We were out for the live version of acceptance speech last night, but I saw most of it on the MSNBC replay. I cannot watch John McCain talk because he is just so creepy. Listening to that nasal, high pitched voice on the radio doesn't work either.

John McCain made a serious mistake with that big screen behind him that looked like a green or blue screen, depending on what the image was. I predict amateur special effects folks will have a field day on YouTube.

John McCain expects people to believe he will change the Me First Congress he was part of. The do-nothing Congress of the past 18 months is because the Republicans are still firmly aligned with the White House and refuse to do anything productive. (I'm not happy with Nancy Pelosi's performance through this either, btw. Keeping impeachment off the table in the face of high crimes and misdemeanors was a terrible decision.)

I hope the Dems will take the gloves off in the debates AND keep the discussion to the issues. Sarah Palin may be able to deliver a speech written by others (after all, she wanted to be a sports caster), but will she be a ditsy beauty queen when it comes to off-the-cuff? And John McCain can't seem to give an answer to anything without checking with his people about what his position really is.

People may hate lawyers (until they need one), but we are trained to be thorough and good on our feet. Barack Obama and Joe Biden definitely have the advantage going into the debates.
